It combines all the classic flavors of key lime pie in an elegant trifle that’s perfect for summer parties, holidays, potlucks, or any special occasion.

Ingredients

Graham Cracker Layer

  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Key Lime Filling

  • 16 oz (450 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup key lime juice (fresh or bottled)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lime zest

Whipped Cream Layer

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Garnish

  • Extra whipped cream
  • Lime slices
  • Lime zest
  • Graham cracker crumbs

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Crust

In a medium bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and sugar until evenly moistened. Set aside.

Step 2: Make the Key Lime Filling

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Add the sweetened condensed milk and mix well. Stir in the key lime juice, vanilla extract, and lime zest until fully combined and silky.

Step 3: Whip the Cream

In a chilled bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form.

Step 4: Fold

Gently fold half of the whipped cream into the key lime filling to create a light, airy texture. Reserve the remaining whipped cream for layering.

Step 5: Assemble the Trifle

In a large trifle dish or individual dessert glasses, layer:

  • Graham cracker mixture
  • Key lime filling
  • Whipped cream

Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with whipped cream on top.

Step 6: Chill

Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for the best flavor and texture.

Step 7: Garnish & Serve

Before serving, decorate with whipped cream swirls, fresh lime slices, lime zest, and a sprinkle of graham cracker crumbs.

Tips

  • Fresh key lime juice provides the brightest flavor, but bottled key lime juice works well too.
  • Chill the mixing bowl before whipping the cream for faster, fluffier results.
  • For extra texture, add crushed vanilla wafers or toasted coconut between the layers.
  • Make up to 24 hours in advance for easy entertaining.
  • Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Do not freeze, as the texture may become grainy.
