Description
Orange Fluff is a light, creamy, no-bake dessert salad made with orange gelatin, whipped topping, juicy fruit, and soft mini marshmallows. It’s a classic potluck favorite that’s refreshing, fluffy, and incredibly easy to make. Perfect for holidays, picnics, family dinners, or whenever you’re craving a simple citrus dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) orange gelatin dessert mix
- 1 cup boiling water
- ½ cup cold water
- 1 container (8 oz / 225 g) whipped topping, thawed
- 1 can (20 oz / 565 g) crushed pineapple, well drained
- 1 can (11 oz / 312 g) mandarin oranges, drained
- 2 cups mini marshmallows
- ½ cup sweetened shredded coconut (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Dissolve the Gelatin
In a large mixing bowl, pour the boiling water over the orange gelatin mix. Stir continuously for about 2 minutes until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
Step 2: Cool the Mixture
Add the cold water and stir well. Let the gelatin cool for about 10–15 minutes until it reaches room temperature. Do not let it set.
Step 3: Fold in the Whipped Topping
Gently fold the thawed whipped topping into the cooled gelatin until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and evenly combined.
Step 4: Add the Fruit
Fold in the well-drained crushed pineapple, drained mandarin oranges, mini marshmallows, and shredded coconut (if using). Mix gently until everything is evenly coated with the fluffy orange mixture.
Step 5: Chill
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. This allows the marshmallows to soften and the flavors to blend together beautifully. For the best flavor and texture, chill overnight.
Step 6: Serve
Spoon the chilled Orange Fluff into individual dessert bowls or serving cups. Garnish with extra mandarin orange segments, a sprinkle of shredded coconut, or a few mini marshmallows if desired. Serve cold.
Tips
- Drain the pineapple and mandarin oranges thoroughly to prevent excess liquid.
- Fold the whipped topping gently to keep the dessert light and fluffy.
- Refrigerating overnight creates an even richer flavor.
- Chill your mixing bowl before preparing for an extra airy texture.
- Add chopped pecans or walnuts for a crunchy variation.
- A little fresh orange zest adds extra citrus flavor.
Variations
Cream Cheese Orange Fluff

- Do not freeze, as the texture may become watery after thawing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make Orange Fluff ahead of time?

Can I use fresh oranges instead of canned mandarins?
Yes. Peel and segment fresh oranges, removing as much membrane as possible before adding them.
Why is my Orange Fluff runny?
Excess liquid from the fruit is usually the cause. Be sure to drain all canned fruit thoroughly before mixing.
Can I use homemade whipped cream?
Absolutely. Replace the whipped topping with about 3 cups of freshly whipped cream.
Is Orange Fluff gluten-free?
Most ingredients are naturally gluten-free, but always check package labels to confirm.
